As of 23 May 2025, farmers in all regions of Ukraine have sown 5.3 million hectares of spring cereals and legumes. This accounts for 94% of the projected areas.
Currently, the largest area is sown with corn – 3.76 million hectares (93%), barley – 743,600 hectares (96%), spring wheat – 215,300 hectares (95%), peas – 212,000 hectares (98%), and oats – 158,400 hectares (98%). ha (98%). Buckwheat has been sown on an area of 49.7 thousand ha (56%), millet – 43.9 thousand ha (58%).
Leading regions in terms of sowing rates:
- Poltava region: 545.2 thousand hectares (wheat – 4.5 thousand hectares, barley – 69.1 thousand hectares, peas – 9.6 thousand hectares, oats – 3.1 thousand hectares, corn – 452.8 thousand hectares);
- Chernihiv region: 476.5 thousand hectares (wheat – 12 thousand hectares, barley – 13 thousand hectares, peas – 9.4 thousand hectares, oats – 23.5 thousand hectares, corn – 406.7 thousand hectares);
- Vinnytsia region: 393.8 thousand hectares (wheat – 11.5 thousand hectares, barley – 53 thousand hectares, peas – 7 thousand hectares, oats – 1.1 thousand hectares, corn – 309.1 thousand hectares);
- Sumy region: 385.8 thousand hectares (wheat – 21.5 thousand hectares, barley – 18.2 thousand hectares, peas – 5.8 thousand hectares, oats – 9.8 thousand hectares, corn – 326.3 thousand hectares).
- Cherkasy region: 372.6 thousand hectares (wheat – 2 thousand hectares, barley – 30.2 thousand hectares, peas – 5 thousand hectares, oats – 0.8 thousand hectares, corn – 331.1 thousand hectares).
Technical crops were sown on an area of 6.8 million hectares (85%). Of these:
- rye – 4.35 million hectares (86%). The leader is Dnipropetrovsk region – 668.4 thousand hectares;
- soybeans – 2 million hectares (84%);
- sugar beet – 217.1 thousand hectares (99%). The leader is Vinnytsia region with 50.5 thousand hectares.
Farmers have completed sowing sugar beets.
In total, it is planned to sow about 5.7 million hectares of spring cereals and legumes in 2025, which corresponds to the level of 2024. The main feature of the new season will be an increase in the area under spring wheat to 227.5 thousand hectares. Such changes in the crop structure correspond to the stable demand for wheat from processing enterprises and exporters.
