European agricultural research company Ideagro has opened its first centre outside Europe, launching operations in Maringá, Brazil, in partnership with the Ingá University Centre (Uningá) and Alltech Crop Science. The facility aims to deliver biotechnology solutions tailored to Brazilian farming systems.
The research centre, inaugurated on 29 April, includes a 230-square-metre lab and a 15-hectare field trial area. It will conduct physical, chemical, and biological analyses, including pathogen detection, enzyme evaluation, and development of products using beneficial microorganisms. A molecular diagnostic tool offering pathogen detection results within 24 hours is among the key technologies.
Ideagro plans to invest over USD 1 million in its first year in Brazil, focusing on research, development, and regulatory processes. Up to ten staff members will be hired initially. Students from Uningá interning at the centre will have access to exchange programs at the company’s headquarters in Spain.
Brazil’s diverse agriculture was cited as a key factor for Ideagro’s expansion. The company will target soil health, biological control, and root development, aiming to introduce at least five new solutions within five years. Local collaboration is also planned to build an innovation ecosystem.
The Brazilian unit joins Ideagro’s global research operations for Alltech Crop Science, supporting regional development of biostimulants and biological tools for sustainable agriculture.
