Türkiye and Iran have formalised a cooperation agreement in the feed industry, marking a significant step in bilateral agricultural relations. On 10 January, 2025, representatives from both countries signed a protocol during the Türkiye-Iran Agricultural Cooperation Meeting, hosted by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB).
The agreement, between the Turkish Feed Industry Association (Türkiyem-Bir) and the Iranian Feed Industry Association, aims to enhance collaboration in the livestock, poultry, and aquatic feed sectors. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including Turkey’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumaklı, and Iran’s Minister of Agriculture Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh.
Despite ongoing sanctions, Minister Yumaklı reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to maintaining strong economic and trade ties with Iran, calling it a vital gateway between Europe and Asia. He highlighted the potential for growth in bilateral trade, with particular emphasis on the agricultural sector. Both countries are targeting a UK£24 billion trade volume, including UK£4 billion in agriculture over the next five years.
Trade in agricultural goods between Türkiye and Iran has shown significant growth, with agricultural exports increasing by 30% in 2024. Türkiye has also expressed interest in joint investments, knowledge exchange, and enhanced cooperation in feed safety, livestock nutrition, and sustainable practices.
Officials also discussed further modernisation of border gates to facilitate smoother trade, with an emphasis on transportation routes that connect both countries and Central Asia. The cooperation agreement is expected to strengthen agricultural trade and open new opportunities for both nations in the global market.
