The 4th “Silo Fires” Conference will take place on 10 June, 2025, at the University of Greenwich’s Medway campus. Organised by the Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology, the conference will focus on fire prevention and management in bulk solids storage, an often-overlooked issue in industries dealing with biomass and bulk materials.
Unlike explosions, silo fires are not regulated by DSEAR, making them less widely discussed despite being a more common occurrence. The event will feature case studies, including one from Lynemouth Power, and presentations on current scientific knowledge and practical advice for managing silo fires. Topics will include early fire detection, fire prevention, and strategies for post-fire recovery.
Confirmed speakers include Southdowne Solutions, Firefly, Robecco, and Thorwestern Vent, with additional presentations on topics such as predicting self-heating in biomass stores from the Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology.
Early bird registration is available until 9 May, 2025, for £200, with the full fee set at £250 thereafter. The conference offers opportunities for exhibitors and sponsors to promote their companies.
