China has completed its first batch of three large inflatable grain silos, each with a storage capacity of 9,000 metric tonnes, in Hunan Province, according to China Coal Construction Engineering Group.
The silos stand 33 metres tall with a diameter of 24 metres, offering a 20 percent increase in storage capacity compared to previous models. The new design allows the silos to fully inflate in just 33 minutes, nearly three times faster than older inflatable grain storage facilities.
The silos incorporate several advanced technologies, including optimised warehouse dimensions, a hydrophobic and oleophobic coating on the membrane material, and a redesigned intelligent air pressure electro-control linkage system. These innovations improve storage capacity, self-cleaning, and visual appeal, while also enhancing waterproofing, thermal insulation, and airtightness.
The completion of these silos represents progress in the application of next-generation grain storage technology in China. A total of five inflatable air film silos are expected to be ready for use by the end of 2025.
