Bulgaria and Kosovo Strengthen Agricultural Ties with Memorandum of Understanding
In a significant step towards fostering collaboration in agriculture and rural development, Bulgaria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food, Kiril Vatev, and Kosovo’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Rural Development, Faton Peci, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Pristina. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including food production, animal husbandry, plant breeding, viticulture, wine production, and the development of rural areas.
The Memorandum also outlines provisions for sharing experiences in fisheries, aquaculture, scientific research, agricultural technology, medicinal crops, and organic farming. The collaboration is expected to strengthen trade relations and boost the exchange of agricultural goods between the two nations.
Minister Vatev expressed confidence that the visit and the signed Memorandum would lay the foundation for a long-lasting partnership. He highlighted Bulgaria’s rich traditions in agriculture and veterinary medicine, emphasizing the potential for sharing valuable experiences. Minister Vatev also stressed the importance of facilitating contacts between businesses in Bulgaria and Kosovo to promote trade relations.
On his part, Minister Peci acknowledged Bulgaria’s highly developed grain production and expressed openness to importing cereals and oilseeds from Bulgaria. He emphasized the geographical proximity between the two countries as a favorable factor for increasing imports and enhancing economic ties.
The meeting, which took place in Pristina, was attended by Bulgaria’s Deputy Agriculture Minister, Alexander Iotzev, Flutur Mustafa, Chief of Staff at Kosovo’s Agriculture, Forestry, and Rural Development Ministry, and the Bulgarian Ambassador in Pristina, Hristo Gudjev.
The signed Memorandum of Understanding is expected to serve as a catalyst for increased collaboration, knowledge exchange, and economic growth in the agricultural sectors of both Bulgaria and Kosovo. The focus on various aspects of agriculture, coupled with the commitment to fostering trade relations, reflects a shared vision for sustainable development and mutual benefit.
