Alltech has released its 2025 Asia Import Risk Analysis, providing insights into regional and animal-specific mycotoxin risks for Asian feed and livestock producers. The report, now in its fourth edition, is based on data from the Alltech 2024 Harvest Analysis conducted in Europe and North America.
The analysis highlights significant variations in mycotoxin risks across global grain-growing regions. Nick Adams, Alltech’s commercial director, noted that differing weather patterns in Europe have caused distinct mycotoxin profiles in Southern and Northern Europe. In the US, pre-harvest rains led to Fusarium-related issues, with deoxynivalenol (DON), zearalenone, and fumonisins being the biggest risks. These conditions also resulted in damaged kernels and increased foreign matter, posing storage and shipping challenges.
Key regional findings include: In Europe, DON is the primary concern in the north, while aflatoxin dominates in southern corn. In the US, Fusarium toxins such as DON, zearalenone, and fumonisins remain a threat, especially after a dry harvest. In Canada, Fusarium toxins in wheat and barley highlight the need for routine testing. In Brasil, aflatoxin, DON, fumonisins, and zearalenone are prominent, with Fusarium toxins posing risks to pigs.
The report also includes risk assessments for species such as broilers, grow-finish pigs, and dairy cows, detailing the impact of various mycotoxins.
