The Midwestern region of the United States has experienced uncharacteristically hot weather in the last few weeks, which are a crucial time for crop farms. The region otherwise known as the Corn Belt has seen record temperatures reach over 105 Fahrenheit in recent weeks as reported by Reuters.
Drought conditions in the past week across the central United States have intensified, causing damage to crops in Missouri, Indiana and Southern Illinois. Some farmers are being forced into cutting stunted corn for silage, a low grade feed for cattle. The percentage of corn rated Good to Excellent dropped by 8% this week to just 40% and with the forecast of rain expected to miss the areas where it is most needed crop conditions look set stay at dangerously low levels.
The question now for corn crop is ‘just how low will stocks be?’, a stark contrast to initial expectations of a record harvest for 2012.
Corn prices closed at $6.72 per bushel and increased by 21.0% in June due to a substantial deterioration in crop conditions reports AGWeb.com. Fears of tight supplies have also left soybean prices higher, in June prices rose by around 13% just close at $15.13 per bushel.
Wheat stocks as of June 1, 2012 were estimated at 743 million bushels, a 14% decrease from a year prior leading to a 14.2% increase in price for this month at around $7.39 per bushel.
The CHOPIN Technologies team are one of the first to announce their attendance to IBA 2012. CT center, the new CHOPIN Technologies training center.
Nottingham based Chronos BTH is pleased to announce that they have supplied more of their CHRONO-WEIGH™ APW process weighers to an expansive milling complex in Egypt. With a reputation for providing precision and versatile throughput weighing solutions in the flour milling sector this will come as rewarding news to Chronos BTH nad future clients alike.
Seven (7) CHRONO-WEIGH™ APW process weighers, all of the latest 3 loadcell design, have been installed to provide a variety of roles as part of this exciting project. From first break weighing through to flour blending, these process weighers form an integral part of the weighing and packaging process equipment that has been installed by Chronos BTH.
The bulk intake weighing of grain into the mill will be provided by the CHRONO-BULK™ AW/VW weigher which is controlled by a PC456i controller. Downstream of the milling process a CHRONO-FILL™ K4.2 Carousel packing system with RV packer is providing high speed flour packing, at rates matched to the output of the mill.
The order was secured by Issam Baydoun based in Jordan owing to the various Chronos BTH manufacturing locations around the world from which the equipment has been supplied.
Chronos BTH state that all APW Weighers are designed for simple integration into new or existing mills and are capable of freestanding operation thus offering fantastic versatility. APWs can apparently also be interfaced with any mill control system.
Chronos BTH Limited incorporates Richard Simon Limited, Verville and Premier Tech Chronos – America for European spares, refurbishments, service, installation and commissioning.
The latest crop-stock reports coming out of India may make for interesting reading to a vast majority of our listed IMD companies as India Infoline reports that it may harvest a record crop this year.
Thanks to some good weather and a helping hand from its government the country’s farmers are likely to reap something in the region of 90.23 million metric tons of wheat in 2012. That is an increase from last year’s 86.87 million tons, according to the UN’s Food & Agriculture Organization based in Rome.
While rice and course grains had got off to a slow start because of a scarcity of rain, a favorable monsoon last year boosted its cereal production to a record 232.1 million tons including milled rice, up 5.5 percent from a year earlier, it said.
Owing to this, India will have a surplus of about 13 million tons available to export in the 2012-13 season that started in April, nearly doubling the average for the previous five-years, this includes wheat, corn and rice.
However there is concern over a lack of sufficient quality storage capacity surrounding this report by FAO.
